Elvaston Communities Group. Formerley Elvaston Parish Plan Steering Group, was set up in September 2009 at the instigation of the Elvaston Parish Council. In 2015 it was decided to change the group’s name to Elvaston Communities Group in order to better reflect the nature of it’s work. The Group consists of a committee which is responsible for planning, organising and finance, and a large supporting group of volunteers.
The area encompassed by the group comprises Elvaston, Thulston, Ambaston and Boulton Moor. The first three were villages initially attached to and dependant on Elvaston Castle and Estate and Boulton Moor has grown to be part of the Parish Council’s area.
The stated aim of the group is to bring the local inhabitants together to have more control over their own lives, to say what they want to be done in their own community and to work with other organisations to get it done. Implicit in this is that people should have the opportunity to get to know each other, have fun together and develop a pride in their area.
Following a public consultation a Garden club was established which together with the Art club is very popular with the local inhabitants. Each holds an annual exhibition. Many events have been arranged over the years. These have included an annual village fete, fashion shows, the development of a Sensory Garden, coffee mornings, bulbs planted in grass verges, local notice boards, Christmas Carols in the Harrington Arms, the Jubilee celebration and exhibitions. A full programme of events is published each year together with information about the year’s charity.
We hope to have our main Elvaston Communities Group website created in 2016 which will enable locals to keep abreast of our many community events.
